Motlhala Solo exhibition tomorrow

27 May 2021

The owner of Empire Arts Consultancy Company, Obed MoKhuhlani, says Motlhala Solo Exhibition will be held tomorrow at Thapong Visual Art Centre.

In an interview with BOPA, MoKhuhlani who is also the organiser of the Motlhala Solo Exhibition, said the exhibition was a new concept that featured upcoming artists to give them exposure in local and international markets.

MoKhuhlani said it was also another way to measure the tenacity of the artists towards their creative progress, their commitment in all levels in the art circles, citing emerging and middle levels, and to be finally considered a professional.

He said there was hope that the exhibition would be a stepping stone for artists to accumulate better sales for self-sustenance, and possibly make progress in efforts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic aftermath.

MoKhuhlani said the exhibition would feature one artist at a time and their levels of progression would be monitored until they reached a satisfying level in execution of their works, hence the name Motlhala Solo exhibition.

“This month, we only featured Ronald Kegomoditswe; who will showcase his new work that was never exhibited before. Although it was a bit tough for him due to some financial constraints, we are happy that he managed to produce 25 different paintings that will be exhibited,” he said.

He said the exhibition would run live and a manageable number of individuals would be allowed in at different intervals per scheduled times.

He said while COVID-19 had pushed towards the use of virtual platforms, protecting the copyrights for creative content was a challenge on virtual platforms hence they opted to conduct the exhibition traditionally. Entry tickets are available for sale.

MoKhuhlani said profits generated from sales of tickets would help to manage the exhibition, and other logistics as they have no sponsors.

Meanwhile, MoKhuhlani said Empire Arts Consultancy focused on mentoring emerging and middle career artists to grow their talent and also assist them to receive fair remuneration for their talent.

He said it also aimed at developing strategic means that would create revenue for artists without relying heavily on government. ENDS
