Every season has its own narrative, which encompasses several elements such as autumn for harvest, spring with its wind, but so is winter season.
Other than being the harsh, cold season, it is becoming a favourite one for some fashionistas as latest fashion trends emerge around this season.
In the past some fashion designers would host fashion shows to parade their latest offerings or winter range to warm fashion lovers hearts, a feat that has become uncommon due to COVID 19 pandemic. With the on-going social distancing such events are rare nowadays.
Nonetheless with fashion lovers all is not lost as they still want to spice it up and look good.
This year’s winter does not have specific theme thus any one can create fashion by relating the seasons with emotions, according to the Fashion Without Boarders and Efigy Productions’ creative director Serge Kabisoso.
He said unlike spring, which can be connected to joy, summer to comedy and autumn to sadness, this winter should be more of monochromes (one colour), which were classical colours, warm dark tones and a little bit of bright colours.
Kabisoso said this year’s winter and autumn would be more of people’s desire for versatile range of colours that embracers band accommodates various possibilities of people’s bifurcated life style.
The fashion trendsetter noted that these were colours that encouraged personal expression whether sensible or quirky and also course that embrace the calm and healing as well as express a rainbow of hope and joyfulness.
“The year 2020/2021 brought challenges that we have to overcome, which our style and fashion should express.”
Kabisoso revealed that winter was his favourite season because of the comfort of food such as beans, mogodu, bananas, soups and grapes.
One designer Rose Modise of Rozelo Design reasoned that the trending colours of this winter season should be mustard green and blue, mustard as a bright colour for parties and said people needed to be bright and happy even for this winter season.
Her befitting theme would be extreme power blooming and the colours were white, mustard and brown because this winter people would experience extreme winter and this implicate season’s strength.
Designer Utlwang Ntwaagae, who fancies winters, said people must gear all their efforts especially in such trying times to take care of their health this season.
Mmolotsi Letsebe, also a designer, was of the notion that the theme should be Staying warm while looking stylish, such as wearing a coat, jacket with boots, dark coloured pants and a light shirt.
He said people should wear warm cosy clothes of earthly colours such as brown, beige, white grey and black adding that the right winter clothes and style made the cold days bearable.
“Winter is also great for adding accessories such as hat, mask and scarf. I believe so because the way you think how to dresses and how you look improves your overall mood and productivity.
If one looks good, the particular individual will feel good,” he said.
He revealed that he enjoyed winter adding that some people get flu in this season and they should eat food rich in Vitamin C such as fruits; apples, oranges pineapple as they help to boost the immune system.
For model Jessica Majere her preferred theme for this winter would be; Appreciating nature.
The ramp beauty said this was inspired by the fact that adapting to a changing seasons could be very challenging leading to insecurities and self-doubt especially in terms of how to express yourself in the world of fashion.
She said this theme allowed people from all walks of life to appreciate and find strength in facing the changes that occur in Winter.
“As a model who appreciates nature and seasonal changes, I prefer colour nude to be the theme colour of this winter period. Nude is usually a colour darker than champagne and a little lighter than sand.
Personally, nude carries so much meaning and value of which I think that it would be an impactful colour in the fashion industry, as well as to all individuals who use clothes and colours to express themselves.”
Majere said given its softness, nude colour was usually linked to calmness, earthliness and strength.
She said nude allowed fashionistas to express themselves without fear of being judged in whatever shade of nude they were putting on.
“Growing up, I have seen and also experienced how the winter season can be draining and less fun.
I have realised that it hinders us from expressing ourselves with bright colours such as other season which speak volumes.
So, due to that the solution to this would be to adore and appreciate nude because when matched with a bright colour, it acts as a neutralizer at the same time making you to stand out.”
Majere further said with different evolving shades of nude, the fashion industry gets to grow and make even better clothing which favours the different skin tones.
“Through this, we are then able to embrace the uniqueness of each shade and able to find comfort and warmth in the winter season,” she added.
If you are into fashion trends, brace yourself to be the model you ever dreamt off this winter. ENDS
