DJ Bunny MC Theo spread wings beyond border

As COVID-19’s ‘stranglehold’ on showbiz continues, some creatives have decided to forge and solidify relations in South Africa in an effort to survive the impact on the industry.
Joining their fellow country folks, videographer Jack Botlhoko and DJ Ksb of Phendula fame, who have since relocated to neighbouring South Africa for greener pastures; the duo of Motheo ‘MC Theo’ Kgoreletso and Aobakwe ‘DJ Bunny’ Mooki have also found opportunities in the neighbouring country.
DJ Bunny and MC Theo are scheduled to perform at Johannesburg’s ‘The Luxeee Lounge’ Saturdays as opening and closing acts for South Africa’s sensation, Zakes Bantwini and other South African DJs on May Day.
The duo will thereafter proceed to Bloemfontein on May 2, where they will chill the Sunday afternoon at Kay-La-Kay Shisanyama.
After realising that Botswana showbiz talent was on a COVID-19 slumber, South African, Michael Ndinisa of Concept Engines booked this talented duo for a show in Johannesburg, which resulted in another show in the Free State Province’s capital Bloemfontein; made possible by a Motswana agent based in Free State, Leungo Caliber.
“Being booked in South Africa during a time when our country has not opened the industry is an opportunity not only to make money, but to spread wings and use the chance to solidify contacts and build strong networks internationally,” said DJ Bunny.
The music compiler and producer of Yamuka Experience on Gabz FM, penetrated showbiz in 2012 and he said this first international gig would open doors for him as he looks beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
For MC Theo, who broke into the scene in 2019, a performance in South Africa was a dream come true.
He was an instant hit in the industry and after his sterling performance at the 2019 Gaborone International Music and Culture Week (GIMC), he was booked for Durban, but the gig was cancelled. When he had his hopes up and dreams of ever performing outside the country in 2020, COVID-19 hit, shattering them.“This gig came at an opportune time and more than anything, I will be going in there to gain experience,” said MC Theo excitedly.
He said he would also build the much needed networks.
As part of staying relevant and pushing their brand, the duo said they would frequently play and make connections in South Africa as well as spread their wings to other African countries.
Their advice to local entertainers is to wake from the impact of the pandemic and reach out, knock on doors in neighbouring countries for gigs, not only for money, but to build their brands and establish those much needed connections. ENDS
