RB2 celebrates 29 years in existence

Government commercial radio station, RB2 celebrated its 29th birthday on Tuesday
Established in 1992 as a government pilot project to find ways to offset increasing expenditure through advertising, the station’s coverage extended 50km around Gaborone and has since tuned across the country nationwide.
RB2 caters for urban and suburban audience with contemporary entertainment appealing to the youthful professional members of society.
In his radio interview with RB2, deputy permanent secretary for Information and Broadcasting in the Ministry for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Oshinka
Tsiang, said as a government commercial station, they were competing with other private sectors with content.
Tsiang said as a public service player, government thrived to empower others in the same space as well as linking them in the digital space for message delivery especially during the pandemic.
Tsiang also noted that government had established infrastructure sharing; where transmission sites were availed to enable private radio stations to reach a large audience across the country.
He also indicated that government had availed department’s studios as a way of giving platform and enabling creative industry to flourish.
Furthermore, he said with challenges particularly change of trends, as a government commercial station, they thrived to do best in the digital space and capitalise more on infrastructure sharing in order to best support and empower the creative industry.
RB2 paved way for renowned disc jockeys such as South Africa based, Thato ‘Dj Fresh’ Sikwane and O’Neal, Owen “Mr O’ Rampha, Dj Sid and many others. ENDS
