Lesego Elijah, fondly known in gospel music circles as Lessy, has finally realised her childhood dream of praising the Lord through song.

She has dropped an eight-track album dubbed, Modimo ao bakwe.

Having been drawn to the microphone at a tender age of 10, Lessy started singing in church and the Apostolic Healing church choir became the launching pad of her music career.

She said during her childhood days, she was drawn to the church choir as listening to the choir fed her passion and love for music.

“I moved on to Jesus Christ Healing Church where I joined the church choir and praise and worship team.

They loved and appreciated music and worship,” she said.

Lessy explained that the church choir made her understand the power of music.

“My pastor would preach about the man who gave his servants talents. While some worked to multiply the talent, one did nothing with his talent and buried it.

The minute I became aware of my gift, I became afraid of being the servant who would bury her gift.

All I ever knew growing up was how to love, serve and appreciate God through music” she added.

After being involved in singing for several years, Lessy then decided to release her first official eight-track studios in Gabane under the watchful eye of renowned producer, Kuseri Kumakile.

She said praise was much more than just music.

She described it as a powerful, spiritual warfare tool adding that through praise, the battle one was fighting would always be shifted to God who would win for them.

“God never meant for you to fight your battles alone.

Praise gives you strength and stops Satan in his tracks,” she said.

The album addresses many social ills and Lessy said issues like Gender-Based Violence (GBV) were a serious national concern.

She said for her, music was a unique media that allowed both the artistes and listeners to connect with difficult topics such as sexual assault and domestic violence in very personal ways.

She noted that the song Emisang dintwa was a call to men to refrain from gender violence.

“I believe that people who are killing women are really driven by evil spirits.

I am calling for God to remind men about their role, which is to love and protect and to guide them on that path,” she said emotionally.ENDS
