Prince of gospel, Molly Matila, fondly known as Molly in music circles has put together a heart-warming album in memory of the late songstress Tebogo Sethomo.

Sethomo, affectionately known as Tebby in the showbiz industry, succumbed to COVID-19 at the age of 42.

Touched by the demise of his mentor and spiritual sister, Molly took time to put together a chart-topping album to eulogise in song the late musician.

“Tebby taught me everything  about gospel music and I appreciate how far she has brought me. After my maiden album failed to impress I joined Tebby as a backup singer and as they say, the rest is history,” he said.

Tebby released Maleo ame in 2005 and it enjoyed massive airplay and won her accolades across the gospel music fraternity.

Two years later she dropped Khubama in CD and DVD. It won her the moniker Queen of Gospel.

Molly travelled with Tebby performing with other well-established artists.

“I vividly remember our trip to Shoshanguve where we shared the stage with the likes of Winnie Mashaba, Paul K and Simon Makgatholela among others. It was a dream come true for me as an aspiring artist,” he added.

Molly took a break from the music scene after a slump in the economic front following the 2008 global recession. The music business was bad and for recording artists, it was unprofitable to put together an album.

He admitted that it was still a rough patch for the music and entertainment industry following the coronavirus scourge.

He said by putting together his new album, it was an effort to revive the dying gospel genre which used to be popularised by the likes of Phempheretlhe Pheto, Matheke Leteane, Gao Thotobolo, Keba Phiri and Vusi among others.

The nine-track album is a mixture of slow gospel jams and fast-paced sing-along hits. It includes among other notable tracks likely to enjoy airplay Vuma, Mangebizwa and Mohau. ENDS
