Letlhakane artists establish foundation
31 Mar 2021
In an effort to mitigate challenges caused by COVID-19, Letlhakane artists have registered a foundation to educate and create awareness on music development as well as its promotion.
The aim of the foundation is also to encourage artists to invest in sustainable businesses that could withstand crisis such as the pandemic.
The coordinator of Ophala Baloyi Organization, Fredrick Stone said their aim was also to provide artists with a platform through which they could register with COSBOTS. Artists registered with the organisation would be given priority when there are performances, he further stated.
Stone said the intention was also to educate artists on contractual agreements, emphasising that it was crucial to read and understand a contract.
He stated that most of the artists could not qualify for COVID-relief because they were not registered.
Artists, he said should have working agreements with their clients, indicating that most of them were cheated by producers, managers, promoters or even clients, hence the formation of the foundation.
Stone highlighted that before performance, an artist should have a binding contract addressing payment plan and issues of gate takings, adding that one should be provided with accommodation as well as food and transport. ENDS
