Keotshepile Motseonageng popularly known as Berry Heart, has opened her first clothing store situated in Mowana mall, Phakalane.

The well renowned poet, now business woman, launched her lingerie line in 2015 and has since swiftly transitioned to adding a clothing line with the focus on red carpet gowns and gym wear.

Speaking at the event, Botswana Media and Allied Workers Union (BOMAWU) president, Phillimon Mmeso said people should learn from Berry Heart, who went through challenges but did not let her situations to stop her from achieving her goals.

Rather, he said she used them to create and build her brand.

“Just like other famous brands let us support our own, help her grow in her new path. It is not going to be easy but do not give up, those are part of challenges that come with a business,” he said.

Mmeso encouraged Berry Heart to soldier on and be ready for failure and take it as growth, ‘this is a new project which needs to be handled differently as it comes with its own challenges. It is not the same like the shop you have been running online; you now have an actual structure.’

For her part, Berry Heart said the store was the beginning of many more things such as job creation for other Batswana. 

She also advised people not to rely on government handouts but instead be creative to make end meets.

Giving a word of encouragement, Odirile Sento AKA Vee said it was unusual for an artiste in Botswana to do something different from their craft, noting that what Berry Heart did, deserved a round of applause and support, particularly at times when artistes were struggling to make ends meet.

“Let us support Berry Heart, on her dream, efforts, and not make this shop another story of a one-time thing of opening and closing,” he said. bopa
