16 Feb 2021

Maun based house Kwasa artist, Kekgosi Maphakela has produced a single track dubbed mogaka dedicated to the late Radio Botswana presenter, Thuso Letlhoma.
Maphakela known as Rama in the music industry revealed in an interview that he found it fit to compose a special song to pay tribute to the late Letlhoma because he was the best at promoting local music.

He said Letlhoma, whom he described him as a hero who marketed the country through music,  recognised local artists’ efforts.

“I loved Thusoski so much because most of us became more visible through his support. He had our interests at heart,” he said.

Rama said the House Kwasa hit dedicated to Letlhoma praised him for a job well done in the local music circles.

“This is a nice song which many who loved Letlhoma will like. It’s a memorable song which carries a soothing message,” he said.

Rama who joined the music industry in 2016, revealed that he enjoyed the fruits of the industry after his songs were played in the number one station RB1.

He is optimistic that other RB1 presenters would acknowledge his efforts and play the song in remembrance of the late Letlhoma.

He also urged other fellow artists to join hands with the government during the trying times of COVID-19 and compose songs geared towards fighting the scourge. COVID-19, he said was real as people were losing lives hence the need for artists to collectively take the responsibility to spread preventative messages through music.

He further pointed out that the pandemic had no boundaries hence the need to take preventative measures seriously.

Maphakela also appreciated that the pandemic had negatively affected many sectors including the music industry but emphasised the need for all to exercise patience and support the government until the situation stabilises.

He admitted that life was difficult as they survived through shows/events which had been put on hold because of the pandemic but hoped that things would change for the better with time if all could take the responsibility for their health.

Artists, he said should also acknowledge that the pandemic had changed the way people conducted business going forward. Ends
