Filmmaker and director, Moreetsi Gabang has written another short film, which he hopes would do as well as his previous production, Motswakwa or foreigner in English.
In 2019, Motswakwa was nominated for Best Short Film at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) in Nigeria and was played on screen at film festivals across the world.
The Botswana native and two-time recipient of the Bessie Head Literature Award has also written and directed several short films, which received recognition and nominated for awards locally and internationally.
This year, Gabang will direct and release another promising short film with the production aid of NIO Visuals Company titled Mosimane or Boy in English and hopefully this one too, would hit the international festival circuits.
NIO Visuals creative director, Frank Oteng told BOPA that Mosimane would hopefully be recognised internationally and would also give local actors and actresses the opportunity to be part of the international screens.
It is set is an unnamed village in Botswana and demonstrates the journey of a little boy into manhood. Production of the short film is expected to commence early March and hit local screens later in the year.
More than 25 local film-makers will make part of the production team and the cast too will comprise of Batswana actors. Oteng explained that because of COVID-19, casting would be done online adding that the production provided the opportunity for film makers to share knowledge and create employment. end
