03 Feb 2021

Katlego Mochai, aka DJ Kooly K, is busy in studio brewing his second album dubbed & ME to be relelased later this month.

In an interview on Monday, the 23-year-old young man from Serowe said the six-tracked album was all about his life, from his childhood to date.

All the songs are instrumental, recorded at Tiroyamodimo studios in Serowe and mixed and mastered by J Traxy at African studios. The songs are Wee Makoti, Ndleli (bula dikgoro modimo), Becha, Better, title track & Me and Speed of sound.

He was assisted by one of the local talented guitarists Bobo Ramolemana, who is also his motivator.

DJ Kooly said since December one of his songs has been enjoying air play in one of the RB2 shows.

The musician also mentioned that he has been promised support by one good Samaritan.

He stated that OBS media in South Africa also promised to promote and market his album.

His debut album Better Days released during last year’s first lockdown boosted him financially.

DJ Kooly worked with different artistes in Botswana and South Africa on the album.

He said the lockdown gave him time to work on more material, hence the album.

The sensational DJ said being able to work under little or no pressure helped him raise the bar in his productions and was positive that the album would be a bang among music lovers with powerful emotional lyrics.

He worked with upcoming artistes who showed zeal in rehearsals.

DJ Kooly K started his music career in 2015 and on the first album, Better Days he worked with different artists in Botswana and South Africa.

He admitted that COVID-19 has hit hard on the arts industry given the fact that there were no shows and movement was limited which hindered marketing their creations.

“Music is not only inspired by love, but also by the returns you make because of your hard work. Even though this situation is bad on us, there is good if you look on the bright side,” he added.

DJ Kooly K, who was a resident DJ at 422 Bar in Palapye, also said being a producer and recording artist was a unique approach to music.

He decried financial constraints in his job, but encouraged youth to pull up their socks and show their various talents to put food on the table. ENDS
