Francistown Arts Meeting exhibitions return
28 Jan 2021
The second edition of Francistown Arts Meeting (FAM) will this year ready visual artists to consider art as a business and monetise it in order to make a living out of it, says FAM co-founder Keoagile Bonang.
Speaking in an interview recently, Bonang said the event would take place on February 17 until 20 this year.
Initially, he said the second edition was supposed to take place last year following the first edition which happened in 2019, but that the event came to a halt due to lack of sponsorship.
Bonang noted that the second edition has found sponsorship and would be sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC).
He said the four days exhibition would run under the theme: Art beyond studio, adding that the idea was to prepare or educate artists that art was business and not a hobby.
“The exhibition will kick-start with a three days indoor exhibition workshop followed with an outdoor exhibition on the last day that will also incorporate children’s art lessons conducted by the founder of The Art Lab, Loretta Mekgwe, who is one of the guest exhibitors,” explained Bonang.
He noted that other guest exhibitors to be featured would be renowned painter/writer Wilson Ngoni and Segolame Kabo.
Bonang further said the second FAM edition would host more than 20 visual artists, adding that already 15 artists had been registered.
He said the exhibitions would be held at the Francistown Civic Centre and the outdoor exhibition at the Kenneth Nkhwa Interchange. COVID-19 prevention measures, he noted, would be in place throughout the exhibition. ENDs
