Mr Jobas gospel targets dikhwaere lovers

27 Jan 2021

New entrant in the gospel music scene, Mr Joba and Angelic Voices have released an eight-track album which gives gospel music a different beat through an infusion of dikhware.

Born Kabelo Moruakgomo in Manyana, Mr Joba said he decided to infuse traditional dikhwaere beats into his first album to close the gap between gospel music and dikhwaere.

He noted that there were many dikhwaere lovers within and outside churches and as such, he was convinced that his music would not fall short of attracting fans within and outside the church.

Nonetheless, Mr Joba, who is a praise and worship singer at Christ Embassy Church in Ramotswa, said he used the genre to spread messages about the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The album opens with popular a song, Rea go boka morena, though sung in the dikhware format, with Mr Joba as the lead singer, backed by the Angelic Voices.

Other songs in the album, include Jehova Ke Modisa, Re Losika, Joko ya hao, Fa o tshelela Modimo, We are of God, Your Name is above all and How excellent is your Name.

Mr Joba said most of the songs in the album were influenced by biblical scriptures.

He said the album, which was released December last year, had already received airplay in some local radio stations with positive reception.

He said as a new entrant in the industry, he took comfort in the fact that the first batch of 50 CDs was bought within weeks, which to him was a sign of good things to come.

He believes that his church performances have sharpened him for a bigger stage to showcase his talent. ENDs
