Local content awards on hold

Gilbert Promotions director, Gilbert ‘PP wa Pimp’ Seagile says local content awards have been put on hold.
In an interview, Seagile said the awards would have been held last month, but that due to COVID-19 uncertainties, most sponsors who had agreed to be part of the awards pulled out hence the hold.
Seagile said a new date would be announced, noting that initial categories such as best radio presenter and television presenter, promoter, print journalist, best corporate organisation supporting creative arts and best legislator advocating for creatives still stood .
“Although we are trying hard to come up with initiatives that would help the industry to survive, it was important that we also put into consideration the COVID-19 situation and observe protocols from time to time. Depending on the situation at hand, we cannot go against them,” he said.
Seagile said the purpose of the awards was to appreciate roles played by different individuals, corporate organisations and media houses in promoting and supporting local content and rewarding them accordingly.
He said the goal to support and promote local content was a way to boost the economic activities of the industry that was negatively affected by the pandemic. He noted that the pandemic left most artists financially disadvantaged. ENDS
