Director of My Star talent search show, Keabetswe ‘Master Dee’ Sesinyi says the grand finale of My Star season 14 will be held today and three contestants will battle it out for the title.

In an interview, he said Neelo Gopolang, Justice Nyathi and Queen Gaarekwe made it to the top three and the winner will walk away with P100 000.

He said he appreciated continuous support from Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, adding that though they had been financially challenged due to lack of sponsorship, the ministry had assisted them with other necessities since the inception of the show in 2007.

He said due to financial constraints, auditions were conducted late in September instead of January and the show was broadcasted on Botswana Television for three months instead of initial six months before the grand finale.

“The current season failed to pull out a large number of contestants, auditions were only conducted in Francistown and Gaborone and the elimination zone had 12 contestants instead of 20,” he said. 

He said although they faced monetary challenges, his intention was to continue to market the winner internationally for better opportunities in the music industry. He further said due to the COVID-19 pandemic safety measures, first priority on attendance of the finale would be given to parents of contestants while other audience would follow from their Facebook page called My Star Talent Search show.

Additionally, he said while the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected the show, this also provided an opportunity to introspect, work hard and bring along positive changes to enhance the image of the show.

He said as a way forward measure, he intended to market the next season and look out for sponsors as early as possible.

He further urged the business communities and other stakeholders to continue supporting and encouraging youth in their efforts to unearth talent as this could go a long way in creation of employment opportunities.ENDS
