Photographers awards on cards

06 Dec 2020

A first photographers awards event scheduled for Kanye in December 12 is expected to create an interaction platform for aspiring photographers and potential mentors.

The initiative is a brainchild of Ramotswa-based, Treveron Media in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment,Sport and Culture Development.

It has registered over 600 competing photographs in various categories such as fine art portrait, landscape, wildlife, food and beverages as well as street photography.

The photographer of the year is expected to walk away with a P10 000 cash prize.

In an interview, Tshephang Mmoko of Treveron Media said they came up with the idea after realising that photographers were not adequately recognised yet their work had an impact on various aspects of daily life.

“We realised that photographers are less recognised yet they bring the world to people and show them places they have not seen. Pictures are also good for communication either for businesses or any publicity material, while at the same time preserving memories,” she said.

She noted that through the event, they intended to identify talent, reward it and motivate photographers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, she said the ultimate goal was to make the event an annual one and keep it growing by adding more categories.

She urged people from across the country to grace this inaugural event since its growth depended on them.

She further called on fellow photographers to use the opportunity to network with other stakeholders who could help build their craft. Ends
