Little Ngwana Stories book out

02 Dec 2020

Lesedi Gaeemelwe has launched her first children’s book titled, Little Ngwana Stories.

Speaking during the launch recently, she said the book consisted of 60 pages and eight chapters that catered for children aged between three and 12 years old  hence the name  Little Ngwana Stories.

She said it was suitable to be used by children from different ability learning background.

Gaeemelwe said the purpose of the book was to motivate and inspire young children through biblical-based stories that would also give them moral lessons.

She said some of the children grew up exposed to social ills and fell prey in the long run due to lack of  moral lessons that would have shaped them into assertive individuals.

She also said the book was also meant to draw young children closer to God and built their spiritual growth at a tender age.

Gaeemelwe, who is also a teacher at Kgale Hill Junior Secondary School, said she also desired to make efforts to encourage young children to have dreams within borders of Christianity and God.

“Encouraging children to believe in God and have faith could help them understand the difference between right and wrong,” she said stressing that it would also help them perceive any challenges they encountered in a positive manner.

Gaeemelwe said the book was designed through the use of pictorial illustrations so as to keep children entertained and be able to relate and make use of the context.

Moreover, she said the book was endorsed by founder and director of Circles of Hope Academic in Namibia, Victoria Joel while Bame Thabi designed illustrations and graphics.

Giving a review of the book, Samaritan Purse coordinator, pastor David Seitlhamo noted that the book was relevant to the intended audience since it was arranged in a simple and narrative language, which would enhance their thinking capacity.

“The book narrated about life issues in a dramatic, colourful and entertaining manner, it was relatively easy for children to interpret and make use of the context,” he said.

Seitlhamo also appreciated that the book was ideal towards the attainment of Vision 2036 goals.

Seitlhamo, who is also  Bible Society chairperson said he would advocate for translation of the book from an English version to Setswana, Sekalaka and Sesarwa languages so that other children in other parts of the country were not left out.

He said he would also encourage all government ministries dealing with child welfare issues to have the book for distribution in both urban and rural areas.

Seitlhamo said while lockdowns were meant to control the spread of the coronavirus, it turned out to be an eye opening moment to detect and find possible solutions to issues such as abuse and negligence among others that affected the welfare of children. ENDS
