04 Oct 2020

Given the dominance that Hip Hop culture and its driving force has had over the years, Khumo Ramontshonyane whose stage name is khozist says he like many was totally taken by the ‘break-beat craze’ of the genre.

The 20-year-old Kanye born said he had already made his mark in the country’s hip hop industry through various projects which he produced through his record label, Mancave entertainment.

Recounting his experience, Khozist said he fell in love with music at a younger age by listening to some of the country’s biggest music names such as Vee Mampeezy.

He said such artists cultivated his musical aspirations and fed his boyhood dreams to one day stand in front of a golden mic, a fulfillment he got in 2014 when he debuted with his offering titled No lie.

Although not having tasted critical acclaim like many upcoming artists in the genre, Khozist said he was hopeful that his musical styling’s would one day earn him respect from his compatriots in the genre.

He said music had been an escape to grow and become a better man although the music industry in the country was not accommodating.

He said he had worked with various artists such as Teddy West and would like to produce music with other artists such as Baxon and Drama boy who he admits to looking up to.

Moreover, far from the driving culture of Hip Hop which centers on the highlights of high fashion, women and drug that have made the genre’s current place in society today, Khozist said his music was woven from teacheable moments in his young life and he hoped by weaving it into his projects, this would inspire his listeners.
