Vee bags another AFRIMMA nomination

24 Sep 2020

Award-winning Kwaito Kwasa king Odirile ‘Vee Mampeezy’ Sento has done it yet again by being nominated for the 2020 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) under the Best Male Southern Africa category.

The Dumalana hitmaker has been nominated alongside renowned music giants from other African states such as Jah Prayzah, Cassper Nyovest and hitmaker Master KG whose song Jerusalema has gained acclamation globally.

Vee was previously nominated under the same category in 2015.

In an interview recently, the elated Vee said the nomination validated the fact that Botswana music was recognised on a large scale.

“Hearing about the news on my nomination could not have come at a better time given the strenuous conditions that the creative industry is currently facing due to the pandemic. I am especially ecstatic that my brand is recognised in Africa,” he explained.

Vee also indicated that despite being one of the biggest icons in the local music industry and Southern Africa as a whole, being a nominee in these awards had put him on a larger platform to prove his competency in music by being nominated alongside dynamos in their own right.

This year’s awards ceremony, which is scheduled for November 15, will be a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vee Mampeezy pleaded with the public to vote for him on the awards website to ensure that he wins.

For his part, Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association (BEPA) president, Gilbert PP Seagile expressed pleasure over the news of Vee’s nomination.

“Vee has always been a consistent musical genius so his nomination did not come as a surprise.

We are very proud of his nomination as he has put our country on the map,” he said.

Seagile also stressed the importance of the awards, noting that it provided musicians with the opportunity to collaborate, exchange ideas and network with other artists from other nations.

In a statement released by the organisers of the awards, this year’s nominee list features a host of established talents, but also stars an assessment of ground-breaking talents in what seems to be a major paradigm shift on the African music scene.

The AFRIMMA are the biggest African music awards that creates a platform to endorse the miscellany of African music by bringing top African talents across the world to celebrate African music.  The AFRIMMA Virtual Awards 2020 is set to be the first of its kind with performances coming from different artists around the world.

Audiences can catch the performances, speeches and award presentations on multiple online streaming devices.

AFRIMMA is the only music award scheme that celebrates the music of African origin, including but not limited to Afrobeats, Assiko, Bongo, Decale, Funana, Genge, Highlife, Kwaito, Lingala and Soukous. Ends
