Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA), in collaboration with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will host a virtual music conference for Botswana artistes on September 14.
The music conference is dubbed, The Business of Music: Promoting and selling Music during and After COVID-19.
In an interview, Copy Right Administration, Keitseng Monyatsi said the objective of the conference was to equip local artistes with skills to market their trade during the pandemic.
The webinar, she said, would provide a platform for musicians to review current challenges faced by the industry and provide the necessary tools for local musicians to explore alternative revenue streams.
“We have partnered with WIPO, which is responsible for promoting creative intellectual activity and for facilitating the transfer of technology related to industrial property to developing countries in order to accelerate economic, social and cultural development.
“Botswana is a member and we have worked on different projects in the past, making and reviewing our laws with them.
We have once again engaged with them on the capacity building, our focus being on music and issues of copyright,” she said.
Monyatsi said the idea was to help artistes cope under the new normal resulting from the COVID -19 pandemic. She said the focus would be on how artistes can cope during and after the pandemic.
“The workshop is for Botswana artistes, performers and entertainers. Artistes can register for the webinar through the CIPA website,” she said.
The webinar will be facilitated by USA based music expert, Carlos Delgado-Imbert, who has over ten years’ experience of marketing in the music industry. ENDS
