Francistown Arts Meeting to improve creative arts

19 Aug 2020

Francistown Arts Meeting (FAM) co-founder, Keoagile Bonang says this year’s exhibition, which will be held in October, will feature several workshops as build up to the main event.

The exhibition feature visual arts, which are painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, computer graphics and many others.

Speaking in an interview,  Bonang relayed the primary purpose of the workshops was to help develop artists’ entrepreneurial skills.

“As FAM group, we have found it vital to have such workshops as past engagements with artists indicated to us that they lacked content,” he said. Also, Bonang said the exhibition provided yet another platform, besides presidential competition, for artists to showcase their works to the general public.

“The exhibition also provide the platform where an ordinary person and art lovers could come and appreciate art,” he said.

However, Bonang said due to the outbreak of COVID-19, plans to have build up exhibitions in various locations around the country had come to a halt.

This year’s exhibition, he said would feature only local artists as COVID-19 protocols would not allow international exhibitors from as far as France, Zambia and South Africa to grace the event.

Bonang stated also that sponsorship remained their main challenge and that they were currently engaged in talks with some organisations to come on board and make the event possible. ENDS
