Kario to groom upcoming models

12 Aug 2020

Prominent super model, Kaone Kario has embarked on a mission to nurture and inspire upcoming models with the intention to grow the modelling industry.

Her modeling agency, Creative Chaos, partnered with Mos Syde, a local talent management company owned and directed by Safie Sekgwa, who is experienced in directing pageants, grooming artists, actors, radio and television personalities, to organise and host a series of workshops dubbed ‘Professional modelling’ countrywide.

In an interview, Sekgwa, coordinator of Professional Modeling workshop, stated that some aspiring models had failed to grasp basics of modelling due to lack of mentorship.

Therefore, he said the purpose of the workshops was to nurture and encourage upcoming models to unleash their talent.

“We felt the need to share our professional experience in the modelling industry with some of those who wish to venture into the field, this will help grow the industry, diversify the economy and also go a long way to help the country gain exposure internationally,” he said.

Sekgwa said sharing such experience would help to instill a sense that modelling could be a fulltime profession.

“A lot of people out there perceive modelling as a part time job, with low wages, so through these workshops, we intend to instill a positive perspective,” he said.

He stated that through the workshops, they intend to expose upcoming models to issues of professional conduct, challenges to expect and how to deal with them as well as to demystify the stereotype that modelling was only for skinny tall females.

Sekgwa noted they had circulated an invitation on the Professional Modeling workshop Facebook page to appeal to all those who wished to try their luck to submit their details for consideration.

He said their wish to travel to different parts of the country to reach out to those in rural areas, would be determined by the number of requests.

“If an area has more numbers, then we can travel there so as to avoid congestion and travelling expenses,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sekgwa expressed gratitude over government’s continued support of the modelling industry, by sponsoring most modeling competitions and beauty pageants.

He also warned of some fake modelling agencies, locally and internationally, saying some expose models to human trafficking. ends
