28-year-old Kanye born artiste, Tshenolo Tauetsile or T-Gray in music circles, has found motivation to grow his music career after the first single was well received.
Simply titled Atumela, the song, which was recorded at Faith Records in Francistown, was released in February and attracted fanfare across various social media networks as well as in the airwaves.
“Atumela is a love song for a loved one which basically assures them that ‘I am here for you.’ After its release, the song was received with so much love from Batswana such that there was a trending challenge on Facebook with people posting their photos with their loved ones and having Atumela as a hashtag,” T-Gray explained in an interview.
He said as the Facebook challenge went viral, he was motivated to release the associated video the following month with the intention to illustrate the meaning of the song while at the same time introducing his artistic side to the masses.
Even though he had always been passionate about music from a young age with some recordings flopping along the way, T-Gray narrated how things were looking up for his career because Atumela was the first song to get nationwide recognition.
He said even though some songs which he recorded as far as 2010 could not make it to the market, his passion and perseverance kept him going.
He added that as an enthusiastic artiste who used music as therapy, he had plans to diversify his music in the near future.
“I have incorporated some genres into my style of music which I call Afro Soul Trap. I was supposed to release a 12-track album in June, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it had to be deferred to a later date.
Once released, the album will be distributed through digital platforms and CDs,” he explained.
In the meantime, the young artiste said he was focusing on marketing his single, which was available in Gaborone and Francistown, through radio interviews. BOKHUTLO
