The director of Gilbert Promotions, Gilbert ‘PP wa Pimp’ Seagile says there is need to increase local content on all media platforms.
Speaking in an interview in Gaborone recently, Seagile said local content had grown tremendously, therefore percentage aired on local radio stations and social media should be increased.
He advocated for at least 70 per cent of local content, as the number of renowned artistes had grown over the years, adding that local productions were bankable and had even penetrated the international market.
The promoter indicated that one of the measures he was using to push for more local content was through holding awards dubbed ‘Local Content’.
He noted that the event was billed for December adding that preparations were at an early stage.
PP further highlighted that the awards categories include, Best Radio Presenter, Best Print Journalist, Best Corporate, Best Legislator among others.
The purpose of the awards, he said was to encourage different entities to play a role in efforts to promote local content, as well as reward those who had been supporting the industry.
PP said as the creative industry had been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, playing more local content would boost the economy of the industry and lessen dependence on government.
He however indicated that some local commercial radio stations had started to pilot the 70 per cent local content project. PP noted that he was working with Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development and other relevant stakeholders to push the 70 per cent local content. ENDS
