Serowe-based performer, Katlego Mochai alias DJ Kooly K is working on dropping a six-track house music album dubbed Better Days.

While its not easy to penetrate the saturated market, the Serowe-born artiste is unyielding about making it in this dog eat dog industry.

“The house music is an amazing genre and has a following. People should wait for my album and be blown away,” he said in an interview in Serowe recently.

The album comprise of songs such as ‘Weee Makoti, Indlelele, title track Better Days, Speed of Sound and And Me’.

He observed that all the six songs carry strong informative and educative messages about the future.

The upcoming artiste decried lack of support from the community and promoters.

DJ Kooly K said most artistes experience financial challenges to penetrate into the music industry noting that sponsors were not forthcoming to assist.

Born 23 years ago, DJ Kooly is riding the wave of music success, which he attributed to having the right network to help revive his music projects.

DJ Kooly K, who started his career in 2015, has worked with different artistes from South Africa and Botswana, such as Cmbero, Cookid from South Africa as well as with DJ Sk, DJ King hit of Gosiame, DJ Skilash, Rico and other DJs.

He also said he used to market his skill through participating in wedding functions, parties, clubs and social gigs amongst others.

“I have been doing beats at weddings and have realised that people enjoyed my singing,” he said.

His love for music started during his tender age and upon completing Form 3 at Semane JSS in Serowe, he continued with being a DJ and dancer.

“It is the only job I do and know so well,” he said. He said he recorded his first album featuring Garozz in 2017 while the upcoming album was recorded in Serowe.

He said he was inspired by South African artiste, Prince Kaybee.

To stay relevant in his music trade, he stated that he mostly markets his music through social media, particularly Facebook, and has distributed his music among all radio stations in South Africa and Botswana.

He said during the extreme social distancing period, he worked on the upcoming album and survived by deejaying to put food on the table.

DJ Kooly K advised upcoming artistes to work hard, compose music with positive message and put God first in everything they do. ENDS
