Dikhwaere artiste appreciates recognition

16 Jun 2020

A 35-year-old dikhwaere artiste, Gape Bame has released a single track, Chaba Di Maketse, to appreciate First National Bank Botswana (FNBB)’s effort to support to artists during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through the Bodiragatsi Jwame, Lentswe Lame initiative, the bank in collaboration with Yarona FM recently called on artistes to submit songs, which have an underlying message on COVID-19. Consequently, Bame said he recorded the single track to both appreciate FNBB and also enter the competition.

“This is a good initiative by FNBB because usually we get little or no recognition and support as the creative industry.

I therefore titled my track Chaba Di Maketse because such initiatives are rare,” he explained.

The Kanye-born artiste, whose last album was recorded with Dipilara Tsa Ga Ngwaketse in 2015, said he also saw this as an opprtunity to plan launching his solo career.

He said even though the song had not yet received airplay, he was optimistic that it would take dikhwaere lovers by storm once it reaches the market.

Recorded at Bullet Music Production in Mogoditshane, the single is expected to be distributed once the competition results have been released. “This song bears a clear message and I am certain that it will be well received once we start distribution after the competition,” he said.

Bame said he looks up to renowned traditional music artiste Ditiro Leero for motivation and therefore remains hopeful that his solo career will be successful. ends
