Avid Bible readers may recall a passage in the Scriptures in which Jesus Christ said a prophet is without honour in his hometown.

This seems to be the case with Botswana music artistes, who have received recognition outside the country.

And one such musician is German-based Nomina, who is an Afro-pop and R&B artiste.

She has been selected as an Ambassador for the United Nations (UN) World Peace Day to be held in Berlin, Germany on September 21.

Nomina, who was born in Plumtree, Zimbabwe and raised in Gaborone and later moved to Aachen, Germany to study International Business Administration in the early 2000s, said in an interview that it was an honour to be appointed the ambassador.

“I must say I was chosen because of my music and my slogan which is, Inspiring for Change, which they found very suitable, especially looking at their values and sustainable goals.

She said she would be performing her new song Fetish Daddy live on stage and promoting a remix of her hit single, which racked up over one million YouTube views soon after its release.

The songstress further said her song Fetish Daddy was a powerful song, which deals with a very delicate topic in a subversively, light-hearted manner. “It is a song, which is easily-relatable to people from all walks of life, fun and enjoyable, on the surface, but on a deeper level, it explores themes, which are thought provoking and deeply meaningful.

Fetish Daddy talks about sexual abuse. During coronavirus lockdown, the number of child sex abuse and domestic violence grew significantly higher.

The lyrics tackle the poignant theme of sexual violence around the world, highlighting an issue, which affects around 15 million young girls, often silent victims, who do not report their cases and never seek help,” she explained.

 Nomina further highlighted that the song also deals with love, peace, protection and the wish to live a happy life without any intruders; something that anyone in this world should be entitled to.

The song, she said had received a lot of media attention in Europe and has been played in some of the major stations in the UK including Phoenix FM and some other radio stations in Europe.

Already, the video of the song, which was shot in Johannesburg, South Africa is out and has been featured on Voice of America, played in Woza Friday - VOA Studio 7 and Channel O also approved to play the video.

The song was produced in Germany, mixed in Holland and mastered in the USA with raw instrumentals from Botswana. ENDS
