Mabua raises funds for Lollie

Jazz sensation, Trevor Mabua has dropped a single offering dubbed O kgona jang to raise funds for nine-year-old Lollie Kgarebe who lives with an autism condition.

Speaking in an interview on on May 29, Mabua revealed that P75 000 was needed for Kgarebe’s trip and medical attention at India.

Mabua noted that several efforts such as sponsored walks and other activities had been conducted to raise funds, however the money was not yet enough and intends to augment it with proceeds from O kgona jang.

“The single track is solely some charity work intended to raise funds for the girl’s medical bills. I am hopeful that this single track will make a difference,” he said.

Mabua said he was also prompted by the fact that the Kgarebe family were open to talk about such condition and their daily challenges.

“We are living in a society that is cagey about conditions such as autism, but the Kgarebe family, have accepted and are willing to educate others about it. The family appreciates any form of assistance for the success of the trip to India,” he said.

While the single track aimed at raising funds for the Indian mission, Mabuo said he also intended to send out a message to parents who abandon their kids living with different types of disabilities.

“O kgona jang quizzes all mothers who could not stand up for different forms of disabilities of their kids, the song asks how does one live well when they know about their horrific acts of abandoning innocent souls when they need them most,” he said.

Mabua further explained that the solo track was initially intended to be a joint task by different artistes, emulating US popular song, Heal the world.

He said due to some financial constraints, other artistes pulled out hence he ended up featuring Kelebogile Mabua alias HT Tautona.

The track is an afro jazz genre with a bit of motswako lyrics. The track was produced by Tumelo Mafoko and recorded at Zolasko house.

The artiste appealed to all to extend a helping hand to enable the young girl get help. Mabua has been in the music industry since 2014 and has two albums under his belt, Abuti and Ke godile jang released in 2014 and 2017 respectively. ENDS
