Thabas aim to rekindle marriages

05 Mar 2020

Ashley Thaba says her and her husband’s desire is to make marriages fun whilst strengthening the core foundations of what marriages are set on.

Speaking in an interview recently, Thaba said while many cry about the deteriorating state of families in our nation, which has led to high divorce rates, gender based violence, orphans and vulnerable children, the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), she and her husband decided to do something about it.

In their self-sponsored show, Talking with the Thabas, which airs weekly on Botswana Television, they address practical needs of what every family deals with.

“Our goal and vision is to strengthen the family unit of Botswana with the hope that healthy families would create healthier people who would contribute positively to society as opposed to adding to the social ill statistics plaguing our nation,” she said.

The show airs every Sunday at 7:30pm and has been receiving positive feedback across the nation.

Thaba said this week’s episode promises to be watched by many as the couple would tackle the important topic of his needs/her needs in marriages.

She said using statistics and information gathered in a book titled, His needs Her needs by Willard Harley Jr. they would address the top five needs of a man, which are respect and admiration, sexual fulfillment, recreational companion, domestic support and an attractive spouse.

Similarly, Thaba said they would also address the top five needs of a woman, which are openness and honesty, affection, conversation, family commitment and financial security.

She urged people who were intentional and want to see a positive change in their marriages not to miss the upcoming episode.

“You do not want to miss this episode as we will offer practical tips on how each person can learn to meet their spouse’s needs in order to both feel more fulfilled in their marriages,” she said.

She said they were doing the topic in particular because “we find many men would say something like ‘what is the point of going home? My wife will just nag me anyway! And it isn’t like we are even having sex anymore, so I might as well go somewhere else where I can find a woman who admires me and does not give me a headache.”

Likewise, the woman is saying, “why would I want to have sex with him? He is hardly home! He won’t give me an honest answer about where he is, and I feel I am raising these children by myself! It is like we hardly even know each other anymore because we never really talk like we used to when we were dating.’ said Thaba. ENDs
