Botswana’s finest male model, Cendric Senna will be among the models that will strut their stuff during the Ubuntu Fashion week 2020 billed for Lusaka National Museum from March 27-28.
His colourful profile motivated organisers for the Zambian affair to extend an invitation to the local fashionista, who has made appearances in several international ramps.
The 29-year-old, stage name Cendric, made his name in fashion circles by winning the best male model during the Presidential fashion show awards, a feat that changed his life.
The tall leggy lad with striking facial features has defied the modeling stereotypes by making headways in the female dominated industry.
To date, the Selebi-Phikwe born fashionista has been hoping from one fashion show to the other, and earns such opportunities by being featured in other events.
In an interview, the local model revealed that he has graced international stages in the prestigious Fashion Without Borders events, Global Expo BW, Independent Fashion week and Gaborone Fashion week where top models around Africa walk the ramp.
“Some shows I have done include Toronto Fashion week, Namibia Fashion week, Soweto Fashion week and Mozambique Fashion week amongst others.
Additionally, I have participated in different fashion shows in and outside Botswana. I am brand ambassador for different designers and magazines locally,” he said.
He is delighted to be part of the Ubuntu Fashion week as it attracts different models and designers from across the world.
Notably a number of male models have lanced the industry that was associated with women, especially in Africa.
Their entry has created opportunities for male fashion designers and make-up artistes who are featured in high profile fashion magazines.
Apart from modeling, the local lad is making his name as a make-up artist and is known for his peerless facial beats.
He owns Cendric Make-up which has been in existence since 2013.
His love for modelling started way back as far as senior school and did not find himself in the industry by default, as he had always been in love with fashion and fitness from a tender age.
The local model also believes every model has his own unique features and has different attributes to offer.
With all the years he has been a model, he has made an impact that still surprises him.
One of his best features on the ramp is his well-defined brows that look like they have been perfectly trimmed.
He said being a male model did not mean getting a free ride to the best parties in town.
Cendric revealed that it takes hard work to be a male model as well as long hours and sometimes little pay.
That being said, breaking into the modelling industry as a male is more difficult than it is for women because male models have to meet the same physical requirements.
“If you want to get into male modelling, learn how to get exposure within the modelling industry and gain more experience, stay at the top physical and mental shape,” he attested.
He revealed that working out in the gym, jogging, eating healthy and loads of hard work as well as dedication and prayer have been recipes behind his success, though modelling remains at the centre of his dreams.
In addition, he said the modelling industry in Botswana was slowly growing despite challenges. ENDS
