SOTS launches official website
17 Feb 2020
African attire, traditional games and cuisine as well as song and dance will be galore at this year’s Son of the Soil event. Launching the official website of Son of the Soil on Friday in Mogoditshane, Bana
Ba Mmala Trust chairperson, Pontsho Pusoetsile said they were harnessing technology to cater for their ever-growing audience.
The website: www.sots.org.bw, Pusoetsile said, would help to build a strong relationship with their patrons and serve as a reference point. The website does not only tell about the mandate of the trust, but also gives one an opportunity to browse through the beautiful attires which always adds a magic touch to the event as well as activities from the previous festivals.
Giving an update on this year’s event scheduled for February 29 at Staywell Gardens in Rasesa, Pusoetsile said it would be held under the sub-theme: Kwa re go yang re belegwe.
“The theme is meant to celebrate women’s contribution and leadership in people’s lives, meaning a mother can be the one to carry a child on her back or a leader can also carry the aspirations of those led on their back,” he said. He emphasised that the theme celebrated a nurturing type of leadership.
Tickets are sold at P250 for adults, P200 for pupils with a valid pupil identity card and P100 for children under 12 years.
Pusoetsile said the ticket qualified one entry to the main event, entry at the Metswaisong event and entry at the Kitsong workshop with prior registration.
He said the workshop would be held at the University of Botswana Library Auditorium on February 21 for free.
Since inception in 2005, Son of the Soil has stayed true to its objective of finding innovative ways of engaging the community around issues of culture.
Attendants will have an opportunity to play traditional games, and participate in Tswana song and dance as well as indulge in traditional cuisine.
Artists scheduled to perform include among others Dr Vom, Machesa, Charma Girl, MMP, Una Sell and Blackrose. ENDS
