Choir festivities promote, preserve culture

TJ choir assistant master Benjamin Kumoto has hailed choir festivities for promoting and preserving culture.

Speaking in an interview on the side-lines of choir festivities in Mahatelo lands between Moshupa and Thamaga on new year’s day, Kumoto said, choir festivities or dikhwaere as they are popularly known, create a platform to impart culture to the younger generation, noting culture is a mirror and window through which other nations see us.

He said over the years choir festivities had proved to unite the nation.

Kumoto is of the view that such festivities help to pull the youth from streets and drinking spots thus averting delinquency that could be detrimental to their lives and spoil their future.

He encouraged other communities to hold on to the tradition of choir festivities to ensure culture is given the dignity it deserves.

For his part, Mr Robbert Rebatho Choir Master of SK said over the years members under his stewardship displayed good mannerism which is an indication that the festivities promote good behaviour and edifies youth to be better people.

He said there are many ways of celebrating the festive season but they chose choir competitions due to the fact that they impart culture to the younger generation.

He said choir celebrations avail an opportunity for neighbouring villages to build rapport, adding that they would be in a position to assist each other in times of need.

Rebatho said such festivities provide an opportunity for networking, sharing of ideas and interaction that have potential to turn around the economy of the country.

Rangers choir master Mr Kgotlaetsile Molefi shared the same sentiments, but expressed the need to have amenities in places where such celebrations are held.

He therefore called on relevant authorities to ponder over the matter to help improve the competitions which would in turn improve the creative industry.

TJ and SK aka Small Kids choirs of Moshupa as well as Rangers of Thamaga took part in the competition, which had attracted revelers from villages in the periphery of Moshupa and Thamaga. ENDS
