The annual Botswana Defence Force (BDF bands) concert that was held on December 6 at Motsamai Mpho hall at Maun Senior Secondary School lived to its expectation as it attracted many, young and old alike.

The band mesmerised the audience with different genres including traditional dance, rock and roll, R&B, Kwasa kwasa and afro pop.

The highlights included the band’s performance of Lizibo BW’s Malebeswa and rendition of Scavenger’s Morweetsana to which the crowd to sang along.

The concert, which was graced by Maun village leadership, Batawana deputy Regent Kgosi Bringle Dithapo, deputy district commissioner, Mr Ramogaupi Gaborekwe, newly elected North West District Council Chairman, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotlho and other dignitaries.

In an interview, Kgosi Dithapo commended the BDF band for the annual concert which brought entertainment and assistance to underprivileged community members.

During the concert, the band donated a P25 000 to Trust for Okavango Cultural and Development Initiatives (TOCADI), a trust that assists marginalised groups.

TOCADI coordinator, Mr Gakemotho Matheatau said the donation would go a long way in ensuring the organisation assisted the six dysfunctional trusts found in the Okavango district.

He said TOCADI, that was established in 2003, was initially for the San people but later changed to accommodate all marginalised groups.

He said their main focus was capacity building of trusts and assisting the marginalised groups on land, livelihoods and health.

BDF, deputy Brigade Commander, Two Brigade Group, Colonel George Bogatsu said the purpose of the BDF concert was to bring BDF bands to the people and to give back to the community.

He said the 2019 concerts which started on November 8, saw increase in the number of villages as an appreciation to Batswana, adding that the concert would be held in 14 villages. ENDS
