BDF band donates P25 000 to Ithute go tshameka

Botswana Defence Force (BDF) band has donated P25 000 to Kavimba-based Ithute-go-Tshameka play group.
The cheque was handed during the band’s 29th annual concert held at Chobe Junior Secondary School recently.
The P25 000, which was raised from last year’s concert in Kasane, would help the play group, which targets children from 18 months to five years, to meet its needs.
Meanwhile, masses of people who filled the Chobe JSS hall got value for their money, as the BDF bands concert left them speechless with the mouth-watering performance of the ‘Skwata’ band.
The band catered for everyone’s taste, youth and elders alike staging different genres of music and dance which compromised jazz, kwasa-kwasa and pantsula dance, among others.
The band warmed up the stage with sweet melodies with first piece of the night from the orchestra band.
The crowd started to stand when the military band played Moeriko by the local kwasa-kwasa legend and ex-soldier Franco Lesokwane and South African King Monada’s Distance where the crowd went wild, cheering, ululating and singing along.
The two songs were followed by Lorato la batho ba babedi from one of Johnny Mokhali’s albums sending dignitaries to the dance floor as they were reminded of their yesteryears.
Nata Capricon’s Bona lenyalo left most of the audience who filled the school hall to capacity with tears of joy as they displayed their rhumba dancing skills, an indication that kwasa-kwasa was a favourite genre among Chobe residents.
As it is the norm, the concert catered for the locals by including the local dance and song, Speru, something that surprised many as nobody expected the Skwata members to master the dance.
The entire performance left the audience asking for more.
The theme concert was held under the theme; Music with Purpose. ENDS
