Masunga turns up in style for BDF Band concert
28 Nov 2019
BDF Band called, “Masunga are you there?” and Masunga turned up in masses at Masunga Senior Secondary school for the BDF Bands in concert style.
It was a night to remember for Masunga and surrounding villages as they relished in the festivities of music and dance.
First, the string orchestra raised the curtain with the calm, sweet and soothing harmonies to pamper the crowd for a take-off.
The ensemble delivered a neat piece to the indulgence of the composed audience who cheered joyfully when the band took a bow.
After that beautiful take off, the stage got heated up with more up tempo performances from the Scottish inspired brothers to guitar boy who dished out Stampore vibes. The crowd was now on their feet responding to rhythmic beats from the percussion act as they hollered along, hey, ‘haebo’.
One act after another, the BDF band delivered an impeccable spectacle from marimba, brass band or acapella, it was just a marvel to watch.
When the director of ceremony announced that it was time for traditional dance songs, spectators went wild knowing very well that a BDF concert is never complete without that Setswana rhythm.
And the traditional dance lovers’ anticipations were fulfilled, when the traditional dance opened with a Hosanna performance, which is a favourite for many North East District dwellers.
Like a well-oiled machine, the BDF camp transitioned seamlessly from Hosanna to Seperu, Setapa, Phatise and Tsutsube as the crowd went wild.
In the name of charity, revellers were on their feet dropping money and pledges in the pledge basket in affirmation that Masunga had indeed turned up for a good purpose.
The traditional dance elevated everyone to the pinnacle as the crowd continued to cheer uncontrollably after the troupe descended the stage.
The experience was incredible at the top as the BDF dance band spiced up the evening with contemporary songs that are trending from Master KG’s Jerusalem, Zimbabwe’s artiste Ammara Brown’s Akiliz.
The band continued to dish the sing along tunes from Vee’s Letlhale la tsamaya, Mahlathini’s Lilizela mlilizeli spicing up with some Zimbabwe dance songs. Ends
