Poets serenade at Word of Mouth session

Saturday night was bliss to poetry fans as they witnessed intriguing performances by local poets at Labama Hotel.
It was a night where poets showcased their performances at the Word of mouth - Live performances poetry session.
Word of Mouth-Live performances is a newly established arts ensemble whose mandate is to curate poetry shows, ensuring collaboration with other genres overtime to include contemporary dance.
Speaking at the event, Word of Mouth co-director, Kenaape Mohutsiwa said it was the first show to be hosted by the ensemble, bringing in cutting edge shows.
“We plan to do the shows quarterly, to give aspiring poets a platform to showcase their talent and give them exposure.
This also extends to other artists in painting, drawing and weaving,” he stated.
Mohutsiwa appreciated the support from the fans.
He indicated that their aim was to empower and create possible network of empowerment for 2019 and beyond.
Most performances were headlined by women and every act had supporters calling for more due to the creativity displayed and messages poems carried.
Phodiswa Modirwa, one of the poets, mesmerised the crowd with her poetry as she consistently rhymed displaying high energy levels with comical faces responding to her stories, charismatically perplexing the crowd without panic and making sense to every story she told.
Themed My Side of the story, the night was lined up with stage names in the likes of Tee, Spoken, Phodiswa Modirwa, BlackGypsy, Soulstress, Wendy, Dudu and King Philosopher.
There were also dance performances from Sab and singers Bontle Bapindi and Cyndie. Ends
