Come tomorrow evening, all roads will be leading to Thamaga Community Hall, where the annual Miss Independence Thamaga will be staged. The event will show case the talent and beauty features of Batswana ladies.

As a cherry on top of the cake, Miss Independence Thamaga is also expected to be graced by some of the most talented musicians such as DuzBoi, Addie Gaza and Amaholic.

The purpose of the event is to unite the community members regardless of their age as well as to bring peace and stability to Thamaga, a village that has recently been marred by incidents of lawlessness in the form of gangsterism.

A gang named Matsetsenkane have been terrorising the villagers, assaulting people, shop lifting and breaking into homes and stealing.

The event is also aimed at promoting Botswana culture.

The event is the brainchild of Phodiso Tshegisi, also known as Pixel, who explained that she invented it last year as a way of making Thamaga known to the wider society.

Her wish is to one day witness the pageant being synonymous with the village name.

Pixel went on to explain that she had always had a passion for beauty pageants.

However, her passion was rather from a business perspective.

Her entrepreneurial mind pushed her to coordinate some beauty pageants for a couple of years until she came up with Miss Independence Thamaga last year.

Pixel, who is also currently managing Addie Gaza and Duzboi, explained that, with the pageant, she intended to motivate the young women and boost their confidence, adding that her favourite motto was, ‘The Best Outfit a Woman Can Wear is Her Confidence’.

She explained that she intended to mentor upcoming female entrepreneurs, to create employment for others and to be a role model to many.

Even though everything seems to be a smooth sailing for her, she explained that she desperately needed sponsors for her event to reach the top.

She said such is the same challenge she went through with last year’s event, which she however managed to pull through.

She explained that she intended for her event to be counted among the best beauty pageants, as such she will not let any obstacle demoralise her. Ends
