Traditional music and poetry are expected to characterise the first ever Ngwao Boswa cultural festival scheduled for September 29 in Kanye.

The event will be held at the newly branded Kgogomodumo Lodge, Cultural Village and Campsite, formerly as Motse Lodge.

According to the organiser, Bush Ride Safaris and Penterstar Luxury Resorts and Hotels regional manager Kitso France, the festival is intended to provide entertainment for the whole family while at the same time promoting culture through food, music, poetry and traditional games.

He said they wanted to keep people busy with meaningful and clean entertainment, especially young people who are prone to social ills during holidays.

“We also want to create an interaction platform for communities and traditional leaders who are the custodians of culture,” he explained in an interview.

Apart from traditional artists such as Ditiro Leero, Gong Master and Dr Vom, among many others, revelers would also be spoilt for choice as there would be both modern and traditional games such as morabaraba, koi, dibeke, jumping castles as well as team building games.  

He further noted that they wanted to take advantage of the independence holidays since most people go to their villages during such times.

However, he said though they were targeting people from Kanye and surrounding areas, they expect people from across the country to throng the event to enjoy Sengwaketse culture.

France said they were intending to spread Ngwao Boswa concept to other villages in an endeavour to promote diverse cultures found in Botswana.

He explained that part of the proceeds from the event would be used to sponsor community events, especially those spearheaded by dikgosi.

“I therefore appeal to Batswana to come in large numbers to interact with their dikgosi and traditional artists in a relaxed informal environment because such platforms are rare to get,” he said. Ends
