Gilbert Promotions newly signed hip hop artiste, Mothusi Chiba alias Morgan Dayz has dropped his debut album dubbed Episode.
Morgan Dayz’s 13-tracked album was released beginning of this month, and is available digitally as most hip hop followers are digitally whipped.
However, the hard copy can be found at his distributors at BBS Mall.
The 22-year-old Palapye-born and raised in Gaborone’s offering is a must have.
In an interview, the new entrant revealed that he was a digital film and television student at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
His love for music became apparent at 11 years when he started singing.
“I fondly recall how I started writing stories but changed to writing songs when I was doing Standard Seven. From there, I began performing during talent shows.”
His entry into the music industry was expected for the young man as he said music was his solace during his hard times in life and he wanted to share it with others going through the same.
Episode was inspired by what he went through, which was also the inspiration behind his stage name, Morgan Dayz.
The songs, he said was an insight of his life as he was a drug dealer before.
“I started using drugs at Form 2 as I couldn’t handle my mother’s death, who passed away when he was in Form 1.”
He said he mixed with the wrong crowd and became rebellious until he was taken to a psychiatric clinic for help.
Some of the lyrics in his song, Hard time spells out the state he was in.
However, the young rapper was fortunate to clean up his act and focus on his dream, which led him to contacting Gilbert Promotions, three years ago though signed in June this year.
The renowned promoter, Gilbert ‘PP’ Seagile highlighted that as a talent management company they receive 20 calls every day hence the necessity to screening for the best talent.
They didn’t hesitate to sign Morgan Dayz because of his unique style, which is a fusion of old and modern hip hop.
PP said this trait make Dayz relatable to listeners who prefer hip hop of the Nas/ Tupac style and also those of the Nasty C vibe.
“The youthful rapper had the potential to penetrate the international market, to represent Botswana in the hip hop game,” he said.
“We want him to make appearances in the Breakfast club, BET and for him to do the wonders that Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest are doing in the international market.”
The seasoned promoter said Morgan Dayz met the international requirements and as Gilbert promotions they would do everything possible to take him there.
Morgan Dayz is scheduled to perform at Gabz Liquor Festival on October 12 and he is also working on the theme song for the Nigel Amos vs Kgotso Mpenya challenge that will be on January 25, where he will also perform. ENDS
