Miss Botswana grand finale Saturday

17 Sep 2019

Twelve Miss Botswana finalists are in Selebi Phikwe for the Miss Botswana grand finale on Saturday.

The 53rd Miss Botswana pageant will be held in partnership with Selebi Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit (SPEDU), which seeks to revamp the economy of town.

The event, which will be held in Selebi Phikwe for the first time, will be held at The Factory, a warehouse located at the industrial site.

The contestants arrived on Sunday and throughout the week, they will get the opportunity to visit economic projects facilitated by SPEDU.

“They will visit the Tuli Block where they will experience agri-business, which is one of the key sectors we are promoting as SPEDU, said SPEDU public relations officer, Keneilwe Mase.

She said the contestants would also visit Pladjan Bridge, Motlhabaneng, where there were basket weavers.

They will also have the opportunity to coach Miss RADP contestants in Bobonong.

“The idea is to promote SPEDU region as an investment destination and what its contribution can be towards economic diversification.

Miss Botswana pageant is a lucrative pageant that often gives the queen the opportunity to represent the country at the Miss World Pageant.

We are very excited to host such a big event and we warmly welcome the Miss Botswana Team in our town,” said the Selebi Phikwe Town Council mayor, Molosiwa Molosiwa.

Molosiwa said the pageant would be of benefit to the town as the hospitality industry, food outlets, fuel stations among others, would benefit.

He appealed to other stakeholders to hold their events in Selebi Phikwe to help resuscitate the economy of the town.

The closure of the mine left businesses in the lurch resulting in many closing down while some retrenched their staff.

Tickets for the show ranges between P150 and P1 000 and are available at Webtickets, Options and Cresta Bosele. ENDS
