Fusion duo, Taola’s new single, Njelele is lined up for release under London-based label, Foliage Records.
Taola comprises of singer/songwriter Thato Chuma and producer, Bonolo Mogotsi and the duo is currently working on their full set album.
The song, written in Kalanga to afro-house and ancestral rhythms and elements, comes as a celebration of the ancient rainmaking shrine tied to the Bakalaka and other tribes.
“Njelele was inspired by our long history of rainmaking as the Kalanga. “We wanted to create a song that celebrates our ancestors and their colourful, rich culture, which was much centred on nature and Mwari/Ngwali as the source of guidance and abundance. The song speaks about our journey back to our culture and roots,” said the duo.
They indicated that Foliage Records, an international record label had released works by artistes such as The Layabouts & Imaani, Pulse, Dilouya, Omar, Atjazz, David Federmann, Manoo, Phonte and many others.
“We hope the song will reach a wider audience and resonate with many people. A lot of people from all corners of the earth have visited Njelele as one of the oldest ritual sites in the world. It is a place we hope will be preserved and treated with respect,” stated the duo.
The two are based between Gaborone and Johannesburg and the single is set to be officially released on all digital platforms on August 30. ENDS
