18 Aug 2019

Masego Selekanyo’s book titled Battlefield is one of the latest debut novels to read.

Battlefield, is a fictional thriller, with a good beginning and a very sad ending. It gives hope to the youth about love and how to treat the ones they are in love with while at the same time it explores the dynamic of love.

Speaking in an interview, Selekanyo said the book was inspired by her childhood life. She said since she had no support, she was able to express herself and the life experiences of people close to her through writing.

The 23-year-old, Serowe born-author said she finds hope through writing.

Her creativity also extends to writing poems and in between her schedules, Selekanyo said she had been able to fit in a mentorship programme with Humana organisation.

Selekanyo, who grew up writing, said she often gets ideas from dreams and events around the world.

However, the self- publishing author has lamented the lack of support for local writers, saying many had difficulties reaching out to their audiences.

“Writers cannot do much due to the limitation of funds and thus diminishing the talent of the youth. I urged Batswana to support local writers because it’s necessary for our development,” said the Tourism and Hospitality student.

Selekanyo said she was currently selling and distributing the book as she had not been able to find space in bookshops. About 40 copies have been sold since the book release and a copy sells at P65. ENDS
