GIMC promises well-run professional event

Organisers of the multi-genre annual Gaborone International Music Concert (GIMC) promise patrons a professionally staged gig this year. 

In an interview, the organiser and mastermind behind GIMC, Fish Pabalinga said they put together the best lineup of artists from the region across all genres. 

The eight show week-long event will feature over 55 artists ranging from musicians, actors, comedians and other performing acts. 

This year’s edition has added a fitness gig to its many genera of entertainment like comedy, theatre, poetry, fashion, lifestyle and the music festival, which is a wrap of the event. Pabalinga noted that the fitness gig would open festivities. 

Last year GIMC boasted big names like Musiq Soul Child, Botswana’s talented Mpho Sebina, the celebrated Sereetsi and the Natives and many others. 

This year the show will similarly boast of the best from the region such as the legendary Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Ndingo Johwa, award winning Mafikizolo, with local acts including Motlha, Trinity Mpho, Thabang Garogwe, Khoi San and many others. 

Gabane’s renowned Kwasa Kwasa act Franco aka Lepako will light up the GIMC festival stage for the first time performing alongside the region’s finest and talented musicians and DJs such as DJ Fresh, Black Motion, Chrispin The Drummer, A.T.I and Vee. 

GIMC has over the years given new talent a platform for exposure and experience. Pabalinga indicated that GIMC allocated 80 per cent of the pie to established artists and the rest set aside for new and upcoming talent. The list of new talent includes the likes of Bouncy, Mjamaica and Mc Theo, among others. 

Besides providing entertainment to patrons, GIMC also supports small medium enterprises. Pabalinga said small businesses need support to grow from such big events. He said the support that GIMC gets from the small businesses was huge and contributed to the country’s economy. 

GIMC festivities start on August 30 through to September 7. 

The week-long activities will have comedy, fitness, theatre, clap and dance, music festival, jazz, fashion and lifestyle picnic and poetry. ENDS
