Kgosi Ramonnye Matlapeng has pledged continued support for events that seek to promote, celebrate and preserve culture.

Speaking at a cultural day held at Tlokweng Junior Secondary School (JSS) recently, Kgosi Matlapeng congratulated pupils, teachers and management for hosting the event in an effort to uphold their culture.

He said the event, themed Ngwao ya rona boipelo jwa rona, was a good initiative as it brought together the school community as well as parents to celebrate culture.

Notwithstanding, he emphasised the need to teach the young generation and engage them in such events so they would not forget their culture.

“It is vital to protect our culture as it molds society hence the need to impart it on children while they are still young to carry on the legacy.I urge the school to continue with this initiative as it will help revive our culture. As leaders, we will also continue giving a helping hand where possible,” he said.

Tradition and culture, he said, were foundations of any society and thus advised pupils to hold onto the values and principles they received from the culture day.

On the objectives of the day, Setswana teacher, Kgomotso Masoko said culture was important because it built society ‘as it reflects the inner workings of an individual in society.

Events such as this also inform and educate pupils about their culture.’ The school head, Andrew Tselaesele explained that they hosted the event in an effort to revive culture and teach pupils about their different cultures so they could also embrace it.

He thanked parents and the school community for making the cultural day a success and encouraged pupils to learn culture from their elders without fear. ENDS
