Speak with one voice- Khama
29 Jul 2019
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tshekedi Khama has encouraged film producers to speak with one voice.
Addressing film producers and scriptwriters in Gaborone recently, the minister implored them to form an association so that their concerns could be given the attention they deserved.
Doing so, he said, would benefit them better than operating individually. Khama said the ministry welcomed constructive criticism because it helped in bringing positive results.
The ministry, he said, was willing to help where possible because government wished for locally produced soapies and series.
He said government had noted concerns they raised from previous meetings such as lack of studios and challenged them to help find solutions.
The industry, he said, had the potential to create employment and appealed to them to make it happen. Assistant Minister Phillip Makgalemele concurred that the film industry was a potential money spinner.
He said there was a lot that they could benefit from in youth programmes and tendering processes. BOPA
