Miss Botswana pageant organisers promise a greater and improved pageantry.

Speaking at the launch of Miss Botswana 2019/20 June 18 night at Three Dikgosi Monument in Gaborone, Development Advanced Institute (DAI) director, Benjamin Raletsatsi said as a revamp strategy, the plan was to empower the reigning queen by engaging her on a project adding that they would also go around the country in search of the next Miss Botswana.

He further said Miss Botswana pageant had a huge potential to create jobs for young Batswana especially in the creative industry. For her part, former Miss Botswana, Joyce Manase-Ntau said the pageant offer young women opportunities that they would have not had otherwise.  

She applauded DAI for their five-year strategy to resuscitate the pageant.

She said a young woman wearing Miss Botswana crown should be proud and be a good ambassador for the country.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development Dikgang Makgalemele said all had a role to play to improve the pageant and bring it back to its glory and glamour days.

He said stakeholders should contribute to develop Miss Botswana. 

Auditions for Miss Botswana will run from June 29 to July 14 in Gaborone, Maun, Ghanzi, Palapye, Selibe Phikwe and Francistown.

Top 30 contestants from the auditions will be announced on July 15 followed by a fashion show and the announcement of top 12 ladies, who will contest for the grand priz, on July 27. 

The grand finale is scheduled for Gaborone on August 17.ENDS
