Motion lab makes a mark in film industry

For a long time, Botswana creatives in the motion industry lacked the platform to showcase their talent and capabilities through productions that gave locals an opportunity to tell stories from their own perspective.
Despite the challenges, Motion lab Film and Television production is among those companies which are ready to change the playfield. The five youth filmmakers,who own the company are making their mark in the film industry as their work already speaks for them.
In an interview at the just ended youth expo, the director for the Motion Lab Film and Television, Godson Tshipietsile, said their aim is to become a prominent, reliable and relevant media company.
Specialising in producing high quality original audio-visual content, the young filmmakers studied film at AFDA, which also included video production.
To date, they have worked in numerous productions which include Miss Botswana 2016, Let’s Talk Legal shows, drama series Phuduhudu and the BET.
To show their versatility they produced the BET short film, which was self-funded movie.
The film premiered in March 2019. After receiving good feedback from members of the public, the movie played at the New Capitol Cinemas Riverwalk for a month.
Going forward Raymond Kanakatse, who is the company’s sound designer said there was need to encourage the youth in Botswana to explore the arts industry.
Kanakatse noted that the entertainment industry had a big turn-over and could help create many jobs.
He also appealed to government to make policies and strategies that supported the arts industry.
Kanakatse also appealed to the broadcasting services department to give local showbiz an opportunity and commission their creative works.
He said Botswana’s art industry had the potential to contribute towards the development of the economy especially that the creative industry has spill-over benefits. ENDs
