03 Jun 2019

Many revellers clad in their traditional attires enjoyed traditional cuisines and beverages at the annual Ngamiland Letlhafula Food Festival organised by Cresta Rileys in Maun on June 1.

The event, which is on its 7th year, aims to celebrate culture and harvest.

In an interview, Cresta Riley’s sales manager, Wame Masike said the event was growing immensely as all tickets were sold out and they had to increase them.

She noted that some traditional dishes were added to the menu this year and that they were ready to revive other traditional dishes in the next event.

Masike said the event was not only a Cresta event but included the community as traditional cuisines enjoyed by the revellers were prepared by members.

The Ngamiland Letlhafula Food Festival enjoyed support from corporate sponsors such as Letshego, Botswana Meat Commission and KBL.

Masike observed that Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) also joined hands with Cresta to host the cultural event.

Through BAMB, she said they managed to get crops produce, which helped a lot since it was a year of drought. An official from Letshego, Kabelo Kwape said the festival had grown over the years from being branded Maun cultural festival to encompass the whole district. Kwape urged other companies to come on board to support the event.

BMC-Maun official, Oabona Ramotshwara said the event showed growth but challenged Cresta to use some of the proceeds to help the underprivileged people in the community.

One bead maker, who exhibited at the festival, Goabaone Oboletse said she was thankful for the exposure she got adding that she was satisfied by sales she made and the opportunity to network with other crafts business people. Revellers were treated to traditional cuisine that included, bogobe jwa lerotse, tswii, khadi, mberere, koko ya Setswana, mophani worm, among others. ENDS
