All systems go for air show

23 May 2019

It is all systems go for this year’s Wesbank Botswana International Air Show to be held at Matsieng Aerodome tomorrow (May 25).

Aviation fanatics and adrenaline junkies from across the country and southern Africa are expected to throng the show and watch pilot perform stunts with their machines.

This year’s event will be the eighth installment of the show, which has proven to be a hit since inception.

In an interview, Media Liaison officer for the Wesbank Botswana International Air Show, Mark Mansfield said the show promised to be very exciting and action-packed with loads to do for the whole family.

He said the air show had grown into an event of amazing sportsmanship, opportunities for attendees to network, a great time for family and friends to kickback, spend some quality time together and bond, especially for those that spend most of their time away at work.

“Bring your family and friends to Rasesa to enjoy a day of aerobatics and aircraft displays,” he said.

He noted that tickets are available for sale at selected Puma outlets and filing stations, Pharma Lulu Westgate Mall, and Altech Netstaronta Botswana.

Some of the Puma energy outlets that have tickets are Puma Rail Park, Puma Pilane, Puma Phakalane and Puma BBS Mall, he said, adding that tickets would also be available at the venue on the day of the event.

Mansfield said armbands would be collected at the gate on the day of the event.

He reminded that airside access would be strictly prohibited and anyone crossing the fence onto the airside would thrown out of the show.

As for the type of death and gravity defying aerobatic stunts, to expect, one wonders what the air show has in store for aviation lovers this time around.

Last year, it was the attempt at a world record wall of fire that left people amazed since it was unexpected, especially for first timers.

Though the attempt did not break the record of the world’s longest Wall of Flame set at the Yuma Air show in 2009, it was a sight to behold.
