The award winning Miss Independence Kgatleng organisation is back again this year for its fifth year anniversary.
The director, Lebopo Bulayani said in an interview that there were surprises in store for this year’s pageant, noting that it was not only about beauty but empowering the youth through life skills training and mainstreaming of culture.
She said the pageant held bootcamps supported by Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development where beneficiaries of government schemes empowered the beauties about the benefits of such programmes. She said they also invited speakers from private companies to encourage them.
Contestants, she said were engaged in challenges where they had to prepare a traditional cuisine and were judged on presentation and another task was to learn how to milk a cow.
This year’s bootcamp will be held at the Hills of Music in Rasesa while the main event scheduled for September 28, will take place at Ntefo Conference Centre. This time around, she the pageant would not feature young women from kgatleng region, adding that they had extended an invitation to others. It is open to women aged between 16 and 30 and auditions will be held June at Ntefo Conference Centre on June 1.Meawnhile, the organisation that spearheads the pageant scooped an award for best organisation supporting youth development during the Botswana Youth Awards early this month.
Bulayani said the award was befitting since the organisation had raised queens and role models.ENDS
